ANNOUNCING OUR NEW TRAINING PROGRAM
We're so excited to announce our new curriculum here at The Box to emphasize the art of play, imagination, communication, and love through improv!
Our Education Director, Jeanette Cerami, has partnered with Kevin Mullaney whose credits include teaching improvisation at iO Theater in Chicago, at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre in New York and Artistic Director at Under the Gun Theater in Chicago. They previously collaborated on curriculum for his training program, Improv Resource Center, in Chicago in 2017. In our new structure, you will see a lot of the foundational concepts taught as before, but with a different approach. The program starts at Improv 1, and while we still encourage students to go into this level after Foundations, certain students who feel confident can move directly from Foundations into Level 2 during this transition session. A big component that we are adding into the program will be Student Showcases for all levels after Level 1 (Level 1 will be strongly encouraged/softly required to attend these showcases as part of their training). While we acknowledge the desire in our growing community for improv classes that train us to be better partners, communicators, and speakers offstage as well as on, we believe a final performance is the important last step in graduating your improv skills from each level to the next. Beyond that, much of what you will learn and experience in our new curriculum is going to feel familiar and equally rewarding from previous lessons. We're so excited to have you as part of our community, and look forward to watching you grow, learn, and play with us here at The Box!
