How to Survive the End of Daylight Savings

Fall is a magical time of year in Albuquerque. The summer heat finally relents and the

leaves begin to change. There are hot air balloons, haunted houses, and ofrendas. It’s perfect! And then… Daylight Savings Time ends. One day, you’re thinking, “Oh wow, the days are starting to get a little shorter” and then the next day, BAM, it’s pitch black on your drive home from work.

For many of us, this brings out our mammalian instinct to hibernate. When it’s dark, cold, and windy by the end of the work day, something primal inside of us yearns to go home, burrow under eight or nine blankets, order a pizza, and watch Netflix. And this is totally fine to do five or six nights a week in the fall and winter months! But, as the weeks go on, you may start to find that you miss the human connection that felt so free and easy during the summer.

When this happens, you need to convince the mammal inside of you to seek a warm place to go that’s not your couch; some place where other mammals might be. That’s where we come in. We here at The Box Performance Space provide a cozy shelter through the cold nights, giving you a place to come be around people and laugh in the dark with strangers.

The Show has been making people laugh every single week for the last 15 years. Every Friday and Saturday night at 8pm, rain or shine, you can enjoy the silly antics of Albuquerque’s longest running comedy show. Everything we do is completely improvised on the spot, inspired by your suggestions. We play games like you may have seen on Whose Line Is It Anyway? And then every Friday at 9:15, The Nightcap brings you longform improv, where we improvise an entire set based on just one suggestion at the beginning of the show.

Okay, picture this: It's the end of your workday on Friday, and the sun is already setting. But instead of just going home, you decide to take yourself out to dinner. You go downtown, to Afghan Kebab House on Gold, and enjoy a delicious meal and a hot saffron tea. Then you walk just one block to The Box, where you watch both the 8pm and 9:15pm shows. You have a delicious blood orange cider (or two) while you're there. You are entertained by the hilarious antics of silly people for two full hours! After The Nightcap, you see someone you know in the lobby and you decide to go for an actual nightcap at Sidetrack Brewing Company a few blocks away. You enjoy a locally brewed kombucha on their spacious patio, under a heater. And after enjoying an evening of laughing with real people, then you go home to hibernate.

Sounds pretty nice, right? Why not try it this weekend?

In addition to Show and Nightcap every weekend, we have lots of other programming - from more improv shows, to stand up comedy, to burlesque, and more. Check out our full schedule here. This fall and winter, fend off those seasonal blues with laughter, and trade in a night or two of hibernation for a night of community with other mammals, who all just want to have fun somewhere cozy and warm.
