Learn how to play from your heart and soul instead of your brain. This class focuses on the emotional truth of the scene, and how the characters feel about themselves and each other. Students will strive to make each other comfortable and seen instead of being competitive with one another- allowing bolder, stronger and more exciting scenes.
This is the first level that will participate in the Student Showcases at the end of the session
Syllabus & Homework

Working on being comfortable as ourselves and celebrating our unique, quirky existence.
Watch Interview with Jason Mantzoukas: Improv is Funny, But it Doesn’t Have to Be”
Week 2: Connecting with our scene partners.
Seeing our scene partners characters as more than just wacky caricatures. Learning how to treat both them and their characters as three dimensional, complicated creatures.
Watch Improv Lessons with Tina Fey
Week 3: Reacting as ourselves.
Using our belief systems and moral compasses to guide easier choices in our improv work.
Watch Daniel Baldwin and Kevin Crow do Dramatic Improv
Week 4: Putting ourselves into the work.
Dropping our truths and views into the work to find the deep catharsis improv is capable of delivering to the performer.
Week 5: Love and Trust.
Learning that love and trust are integral to good, comfortable improv. When we lean on our scene partners, we can spend our energy in fun ways instead of playing from a place of fear.
Week 6: Being affected.
Allowing the work to affect and change both you and your characters. Taking the time to enjoy the transformations we experience on and offstage.
Week 7: Grounding in Truth and showcase prep.
Digging deep and removing the idea of performance, playing for ourselves and our scene partners instead of an audience. Then, ironically, preparing for a showcase in front of an audience.
