The Basic is an introduction to the fundamentals of improvisation. The focus of this course includes agreement, an introduction to the basic elements of an improv scene, as well as an incorporation of confidence, creativity and listening into scenes.
This course is designed for those wanting to learn more about improvisation through professional instruction - and is offered regardless of experience level.
Mondays - 6:00pm to 9:00pm
March 6th - April 10th
This class is a continuation of Basic I, and focuses on building the foundation of scenework. In this class you will develop an understanding of grounded comedy and improv technique that allows for more in-depth, smarter play.

March 5th - April 9th
This course focuses on development of character and stylistic choices within scenes, while building upon foundational scenework. Furthering basic scenic work combined with different methods of playing allows for smarter, more grounded play.
*Prerequisite for this course: Basic II
Wednesdays - 6:00pm to 9:00pm
March 8th - April 12th
This course builds upon work developed in previous courses, implementing in-depth scenic choices. Students learn how to maintain and effectively utilize character and style choices while respecting the balance and groundwork of the scene.
*Prerequisite for this course: Intermediate I

March 7th - April 11th
Advanced l introduces different types of improvisation, including various types of long-form play. This course also focuses on a more elevated understanding of short-form structures and hosting.
* Prerequisite for this course: Intermediate 2 teacher recommendation.
Music Improv Workshop
Thursdays - 7:00pm to 10:00pm
March 2nd - March 23rd
A four-week improv intensive focusing on the structures, basics, joys, and struggles of musical improvisation. Workshop participants will build on the skills learned in the preceding week, including song building basics, scene work, group work, musical types & structures, and musical short form games. By the end, players will have the core skills to build songs in the moment. Come sing with us! Workshop co-directed by Natalie Kossar (Instructor) and Casey Mraz (Musical Director).
* Prerequisite for this course: Intermediate 2
The Box is dedicated to providing improvisation education that will take your skills and confidence to a higher level. To this end, students will be placed in specific courses. If you have not attended a class before, you will begin with The Basic.

The Box Performance Space and Improv Theatre is pleased to continue its focused course of improvisational comedy study. Our curriculum allows students to elevate their understanding of improv and comedy through a series of courses devoted to scenic work and character development. Our courses are great for improvisers, actors, and anyone wanting to boost confidence levels.
Improvisation is an excellent tool for creating comedy, developing acting skills and improving public speaking. It’s also a great way to work effectively within a group, and is incredibly fun!
